Archives of Japan – Mt. Fuji

I lived nearly fifteen years in Japan, twelve of which were literally in the evening shadow of Mt. Fuji. What an amazing mountain!

Every day, either on my way to work or just tooling around the neighborhood, I would gaze out to see what that old man was doing.

No two days were the same.

Many days, the city haze would obscure all but a thin outline. There’s a running joke among my family who visited while I lived there that Mt. Fuji doesn’t really exist, that it’s part of the same creation myth that the Emperor was born of the sun. But when the clouds and haze part…wow!
